Magnetic frag racks in several sizes and colours laid out together

Three footprints, one height

Mini is the compact rack at 103mm long.

Slim runs 151mm but is only 39.25mm wide. Standard is 175mm by 81.25mm, the biggest of the 3. All of them stand 38mm high, so the real choice is how much glass you can spare for it.

Sealed for saltwater

Magnets and saltwater do not get on, which is why ours took 2 years to get right.

Each magnet sits in a bonded plastic capsule that is secured within the printed rack. The outer magnet stays on the dry side of the glass, because it is not waterproof.

Move it when the frags move on

Because it hangs on a magnet, the rack is never fixed in one spot.

Slide it along the glass to give new frags more light or less flow, then shift it again when they have grown or the layout changes.

Check your glass first

The Standard magnet and the Strong magnet are rated for different glass, and the figure changes with the size.

The lowest rating is 13mm, on the Standard size with a Standard magnet. The highest is 20mm, on Slim with a Strong magnet.

Which size of magnetic frag rack do I need?

Pick by the space on your glass and the glass you have. Mini is the compact rack, Slim is long and narrow, and Standard has the biggest footprint. All 3 stand 38mm high.

Size Length Width Height Standard magnet, glass to Strong magnet, glass to
Mini 103mm 67.25mm 38mm 14mm 19mm
Slim 151mm 39.25mm 38mm 15mm 20mm
Standard 175mm 81.25mm 38mm 13mm 19mm

How many frags fit depends on the size of your plugs and the rack footprint, so compare the lengths and widths above with your own plugs.

How thick can my glass be?

It depends on the size and the magnet. Measure your glass, then read the row for the rack you want. Standard size with a Standard magnet has the lowest rating at 13mm, and Slim with a Strong magnet has the highest at 20mm.

Not sure which strength to pick? Our guide shows which magnet strength suits your glass. The ratings are stated for glass. If your tank is acrylic, message us before you order.

Are the magnets safe in saltwater?

Saltwater is hard on magnets, so we spent 2 years refining ours. Each one is sealed inside a bonded plastic capsule, and the capsule is secured within the printed rack.

The outer magnet is different. It is for dry use only and is not waterproof. The longer answer is in our guide on whether magnets are safe in a reef tank.

Can I move the rack as the corals grow?

Yes. A magnet holds it, so you can slide it along the glass to change how much light and flow your frags get, then move it again later. If you want a rack on the tank floor instead, look at the standing frag rack V2.

Never used one? Start with what a frag rack is, or see how the options compare in magnetic, standing and egg crate racks.

What colours does it come in?

There are 5: Midnight Black, Scarlet Red, Aqua Green, Clown Orange and Regal Blue. Colour and magnet strength are separate options, so any colour takes either magnet. The photos change with the colour you choose.

Frags need something to sit on, and our black frag plugs and the FragDoc plug holder sit in the same range. Browse everything under frag racks or magnetic reef accessories.

Questions about this product

Which magnet strength do I need for my glass?

Match it to your glass and the rack size. On Mini, Standard magnets suit glass to 14mm and Strong to 19mm. On Slim the figures are 15mm and 20mm. On Standard they are 13mm and 19mm. Measure the glass first and choose the rating that covers it.

Can the magnet stay in saltwater?

The magnets are sealed inside bonded plastic capsules, a design we refined over 2 years, and secured within the printed rack. The outer magnet is a separate part. It is for dry use only and is not waterproof, so keep it out of the tank.

What is the difference between Mini, Slim and Standard?

Footprint, mostly. Mini is 103mm by 67.25mm, Slim is 151mm by 39.25mm and Standard is 175mm by 81.25mm. All 3 are 38mm high and come in the same 5 colours with the same 2 magnet strengths. The glass ratings shift a little with each size.

Is there a frag rack for the bottom of the tank instead?

Yes, the standing frag rack V2. It stands on the floor of the aquarium, so there is no glass to measure and no magnet to choose. It comes in Mini and Standard sizes, in the same 5 colours, and it is designed and 3D printed by Marine Spec just like the magnetic racks.

Will it work on an acrylic tank?

We state the glass ratings for glass only, and we have not rated the racks for acrylic. If your tank is acrylic, message us with the thickness of the panel before you order, and we will tell you what we know. Check the sizes in the table first, so you know the footprint you need.
